Who we are... We are a village produce association serving the villages around Albury, Chilworth, Shere, Peaslake, and Farley Green, in the county of Surrey in the south east of England. Celebrating the best of the season’s crop and rewarding excellence, the Albury Produce Show was the highlight of the year and over the decades has become the de facto village show, running now for 62 consecutive years - making us one of the longest running produce shows in the UK. Our History... The Albury Produce Association was founded, in common with thousands of similar organizations across the country, to encourage people to grow their own food at the end of World War II. As food was still scarce, and with rationing set to continue until as late as 1954, these self-help associations allowed people to share knowledge and experience and even seeds. In the 1970’s in order to help cover the ever increasing fixed costs of staging the show, the then Committee created the Saturday night Barn Dance, which has become a regular sell–out event. This was followed in the 1990’s by the introduction of "The Tent Service" on the Sunday morning, where the churches of Albury, Chilworth, Shere and Peaslake come together for this very popular annual event. We celebrated our diamond jubilee in 2006. Helping Good Causes... Each year the Albury Produce Association donates the surplus from its annual activities (now focused around the Show weekend in the middle of July) to local charities and good causes. Over the past few years this has been around £2,000 to £3,000. SATURDAY 19th JULY 2008 on ALBURY HEATH at 2.00pm.
